We HIGHLY recommend a real estate agent if it is your first purchase. There is a lot of information and nuance that a good agent can provide. However, if you are up to the challenge and know your market, there is an alternative option. Either way you go, we want to empower you with information about the ecosystem so you can make the best decision for yourself.
Why go Agent Free?
If you've bought or sold a home before, you know that the agent fees add up! The typical agent fee on each side of a transaction is 3%. That means that for a $500k home purchase, the buyer's agent and the seller's agent are taking $30,000 total out of that $500k transaction! While that may work out when you are new to buying a home, it is money that you can save with a bit of legwork.
Even if you do end up going with an agent, it is well worth your time to understand the process and the leverage that you have. There are various ways that you can still go with an agent but reduce the cost from 3% down to as low as 1% depending on your deal.
